The Farm

Farm Life at The Learning Academy

A Day On The Farm

At The Learning Academy, the farm is more than a place—it’s a living classroom where students connect with nature, animals, and the rhythms of daily life in a deeply meaningful way. Our school farm offers students a chance to slow down, get their hands dirty, and experience firsthand what it means to care for something beyond themselves.

Daily Tasks

Each day brings new opportunities for responsibility, discovery, and joy. Children help with a variety of daily tasks, including:

• Collecting eggs from our hens and learning about their life cycles and habits

• Harvesting fruits and vegetables from the garden—picking tomatoes, pulling carrots, shelling peas, and more

• Feeding and watering animals with care and consistency

• Grooming horses and donkeys, and other animals, brushing their coats and observing their health

• Exercising animals, taking them for short walks or encouraging gentle play

• Helping train animals with patience and encouragement, learning about communication and behavior

• Cleaning stalls, organizing feed, and maintaining outdoor spaces to keep the farm running smoothly

Through this hands-on work, students build practical skills and strong character. They learn about responsibility, empathy, patience, and the interconnectedness of all living things. They see where food comes from, how animals depend on us (and we on them), and what it feels like to contribute to a community in a real and tangible way.

But farm life isn’t just about chores—it’s also about presence. Whether it’s gathering warm eggs on a cool morning, feeling the dirt under their nails after harvesting a row of vegetables, or quietly sitting with an animal in the sunshine, students find moments of calm, connection, and wonder.

We believe farm life teaches lessons that stick—lessons about care, effort, and gratitude. And best of all, it gives students a chance to build confidence and independence through real, meaningful work.
