Kristin Johnson brings over 25 years of experience in education to her leadership role at The Learning Academy of Teton Valley. Now entering her 22nd year at the school, Kristin is stepping out of the classroom and into a role that allows her to work more closely with the entire school community—supporting families, connecting with students of all ages, mentoring teachers, and creating meaningful learning experiences and opportunities throughout the school.

After so many years in the classroom, Kristin knows that some of the most important parts of education happen outside of a lesson plan. She loves dreaming up new programs, planning adventures and field trips, helping teachers bring ideas to life, supporting families, and simply having the flexibility to show up wherever she is needed. Her approach to both education and leadership is rooted in relationships, and she believes children thrive when they feel truly known, teachers do their best work when they feel supported, and families feel connected to their school community.

Kristin grew up in northern Maine but has called Teton Valley home for nearly 25 years. She shares her adventures with her husband, Larry, their teenage daughter, Lila, and their super crazy—but oh-so-lovable—dog, Cooper. Whether she is cheering from the sidelines as a soccer mom, heading to the mountain as a freeride ski team mom, or soaking up the salt air as a surfer mom, Kristin is all about showing up for her people—and she brings that same energy and encouragement to The Learning Academy.

She loves gardening, live music, rock climbing, skiing, cooking for family and friends, road trips, travel, and being anywhere outside or near water—especially the ocean. Adventure, great food, new experiences, and finding opportunities to learn along the way are a big part of who she is.

As one of the longtime cornerstones of The Learning Academy, Kristin brings creativity, humor, heart, and a deep belief in what children are capable of. She is excited for this next chapter and the opportunity to be more present throughout the school—supporting the children, teachers, and families who make The Learning Academy the community she has loved for more than two decades.

Welcome to The Learning Academy of Teton Valley! We are honored that you are considering our school for your child’s educational journey. Located in Driggs, Idaho, our campus serves students from preschool through eighth grade and offers a nature-based, individualized learning environment where children are encouraged to explore, create, and grow at their own pace.
