Gina Hickey
Preschool Teacher
Gina Hickey has been working with children for as long as she can remember. A true valley native, Gina began babysitting and working as a summer camp counselor for The Learning Academy of Teton Valley around the age of 14. Since then, she has worn many hats within the LATV community—camp counselor, preschool teacher, paraprofessional, and substitute teacher. She has also worked as a nanny for local families and supported pediatric care and vaccinations at a local clinic, bringing both compassion and versatility to every role she takes on.
Born in Jackson Hole, Gina has always felt connected to the mountains and forests of Teton Valley. Though she spent a short time living in Denver, her heart brought her back to the place she’s always called home. Deeply inspired by nature and the magic of the seasons, she especially looks forward to the crisp air and changing colors of fall—what she lovingly refers to as “spooky season.”
Outside of school, Gina enjoys spending time with her beloved German Shepherd, Francis, tapping into her creative side through painting, drawing, and writing, and exploring local trails and wooded areas. She loves everything whimsical, magical, and even a little spooky—and brings that imagination and wonder into her classroom.
Gina’s favorite part of teaching is connecting with her students both through curriculum and imaginative play. She loves finding creative ways to help students understand new concepts, build friendships, and feel safe and celebrated as their authentic selves. Nothing brightens her day more than walking through the door and hearing the excited voices of her students exclaiming, “Miss Gina is here!”
A fun surprise for many students is learning that Gina is actually Ms. Halina’s daughter—a fact that never fails to delight. Gina is also possibly the world’s biggest animal lover. If you’re curious about a random animal fact, she’s your go-to—and you’ll see her eyes light up the moment you ask. Learning Academy students are so fortunate to have Gina’s enthusiasm, creativity, and warmth enriching their school days.
