It’s that time of year again! The annual Tin Cup Challenge is such an amazing community fundraiser and we are honored to be able to participate in this incredible event for local non-profits. Because your donation is matched at a percentage, your help goes so much further. More information about the challenge and how it works can be found here.
This year was difficult for all of us, but we persevered, and we have come out stronger on the other side! Thank you for the many ways you have continued to support us. It is that support and your love of our school that has helped us thrive for the past 17 years.
Big things are happening around here. Last year we were just trying to hang on, this year we are in the process of FINALLY purchasing our big red building and seeing Ms. Dani’s dream of our little school farm coming to fruition. It’s very exciting!
Can you pitch in what you can to help us achieve these goals? Our awesome school’s interior and our new playground spaces are in need of some sprucing up. This year’s Tin Cup funds will continue to support our financial aid program and help to purchase important curriculum, but will also be used to improve our indoor and outdoor learning and play spaces.
Our Tin Cup motto has always been, "if we all give a little, we can raise a lot." Thank you for giving what you can to help us continue to grow and make our school the very best it can be and for spreading the word to friends and family who may wish to support your child(ren)’s school. We are so grateful to our LATV community!

THANK YOU from all of us at LATV!
We would like to start our final newsletter of the year off with a huge, heartfelt thank you for a wonderful school year. We certainly had some hurdles to work with this year, but you helped us get through them! Thank you for the opportunity to spend our days with your children, for all the help and support you have given in numerous ways throughout the year and for continuing to believe in what we do and spreading that word to those you know. Because of you, The Learning Academy is possible! We hope you all have amazing summers and we look forward to seeing you at summer camp and in the fall.
HEALTHY END OF THE YEAR
We have added some leniency with masks for students. When students are in their seats in class and able to be distanced from one another they may remove their masks. As has been the case all year, students are not required to mask when outdoors. Please remember to keep your students home if they are showing any symptoms of illness. We realize that it is allergy season, but if your student has a cough, green mucus or a sore and/or scratchy throat, please keep them at home until symptoms subside.

GIFT THANK YOU
All teachers would like to thank you for your thoughtful, generous Christmas and holiday gifts. We were spoiled and felt very loved and appreciated. We always hope to thank each of you individually, but if we didn’t, thank you so much!
WINTER GEAR & LABELING BELONGINGS
Please consider that students have recesses each morning and afternoon when packing your child’s snow bag, particularly their hats and gloves or mittens. We want students to be warm and toasty on these cold days. With all of the gear required for winter play, we are also asking you to please label your child’s belongings with marker or stickers with their names. Items are getting lost or accidentally swapped because students have the same boots, snow pants, mittens, etc. Thank you for your help with this!
Thank you for continuing to send your child to school with a clean mask each day. Masks and buffs should have multiple layers of protection and fit properly over the nose and mouth without need for constant adjustment.
**Below please find links to the masks that have seemed to be the most successful and least problematic for our students and teachers. There’s also a local homemade mask seller named Kiki Brickler who can be found via Teton Valley’s Garage Sale on Facebook. Corner Drug and MD Nursery also sell masks that fit well.
WINTER SPORTS at GRAND TARGHEE
Beginning on January 8th we will be headed to Grand Targhee to ski for the afternoon on the next six Fridays. We will leave the school at 12:00 pm and will return to LATV by 4:30 pm (usually closer to 4:15), if you aren’t present to pick up your child at that time, they will be sent to aftercare. Chaperones who are at the ski hill should meet your child in front of ski school at 3:30pm to pick them up from their lessons. K-8 Students must bring all ski clothing and gear with them to school in the morning – a snack and water bottle are also recommended. Again, please label all of your child’s belongings! All TK and preschool students must be accompanied by a chaperone. Those in preschool who are not attending will have class as scheduled, any students in grades K-8 who are not attending must be picked up by 12:00 on ski days. Thank you!
FEBRUARY WINTER SPORTS – ICE SKATING
Students will visit Kotler Ice Arena to skate on February 19th and February 26th from 10-11:30am. This program is for students in grades K-8 only. The cost is $5/session per student. This includes rentals, if needed. Students must have a helmet.

The BIG 5
Thank you for sending your student to school with the big 5 (boots, snow pants, jacket, hat, gloves) every day and for taking home and drying their snow clothing each night before returning it the next day. Thank you!
Our Winter Break will be December 21 – January 1. School will release on December 18th at 3:00 pm and students will return to school on Monday, January 4th. There will be no aftercare on Friday, December 18th. Have a wonderful holiday!
Winter Sports Program – Parent Drivers Needed!
Attached please find information regarding our winter sports program. We will begin going to Grand Targhee to ski on Friday afternoons beginning January 8th. This program is for ages 4 and up only and all students in Preschool or Transitional Kindergarten must be accompanied by a parent (preschool students who do not attend on Fridays are welcome to meet us there with a parent).
We will not be using the school bus to transport students to/from the resort this year. If you are able to transport your own children or are willing to transport others in your child’s class, please let us know as soon as possible. We feel confident that we can make this work safely and effectively, but in the event that we are short on drivers, we will be unable to participate in the program this year.
Preschool/TK students who do not participate will have regularly scheduled classes on Fridays, however those in K-8th grades who choose not to attend will need to be picked up from school at 12:00 on ski days. All registration and payments will be done online this year directly through Grand Targhee – this link is not yet available, but we will send it as soon as we have it.
Secret Santa Gift Exchange & Pajama Day
Friday, December 18th is pajama day and we will do a small gift exchange. K-8th grade students will come home with the name of a student to purchase a gift for. Preschool students may bring a wrapped gift for a child of the same gender or something gender neutral. Please limit spending to $10 or less. Thank you for participating in this fun event. The kids love it so much! Gift ideas include: art supplies, games, books or small toys – please try to avoid candy or other “treats”.
Just a reminder to choose The Learning Academy of Teton Valley as the beneficiary of your Amazon.com purchases if you can’t find it locally! The school receives .05% of all purchases on Amazon Smile. Visit https://smile.amazon.com to sign up. Thank you!
Ms. Dani and Ms. Aly will be holding virtual conferences next week. They look forward to visiting with you and will be in touch about scheduling.
?LATV NOVEMBER NEWS!?
Warm Clothing/Inside Shoes/Winter Clothes Bag
It looks like we have some nice fall weather coming up, but we sure got a sneak peek of what’s on the way! We will continue to have two recesses each day throughout the school year. Please send students to school in proper outdoor attire (the big 5 – winter hat, mittens, snow pants, warm jacket, and snow boots) and with one pair of slippers or “inside shoes” that can stay at school to wear after removing snow boots. Please send all snow clothes in a separate bag for easy access and please label all belongings. Thank you for taking home and drying your child’s snow clothes each night.
Preschool/Kindergarten Parents, please continue to use the front turnaround/gate to drop-off and we will do our best to keep that area clear of snow. At preschool pick-up, please leave your vehicle to come to the side doors for your student as they will be waiting inside (ready to go!) now that the weather is colder.
There will be no school the week of November 23-27. We hope you have a happy Thanksgiving!
There will be no aftercare on Friday, November 20th.
COVID-19 & Staying Healthy
Again, thank you so much for all you’re doing to help keep our school healthy and open! Just a reminder that we require all adults that come onto school grounds be wearing a mask when having a close interaction (less than 6 feet) with teachers or students. We ask that you please ring the front doorbell if you must drop off anything to the office and we greatly appreciate you wearing a mask if you do feel the need to enter the building.
Also, in addition to keeping your child home if they are showing any symptoms of illness, please keep your child home if ANY member of your household is ill with COVID-like symptoms. Thank you for understanding the importance of this policy.
School Cancellation Policy
We do not follow the public school cancellation policy. We cancel in the event that the wind chill drops below -30, there are impassable roads, or other dangerously inclement weather. In some cases we may open late if weather is likely to improve or close early if weather is likely to deteriorate. An emergency text will be sent in the event of a cancellation, late entry, or early pick-up. You can also check Local News 8, our Facebook page, or your email for full-day closure information.
Parent/Teacher Conferences & Report Cards
K-8 Conferences will be held the weeks before and after our Thanksgiving break; your child’s teacher will be in touch with you to schedule your virtual conference. Report cards will be distributed at that time.
Scholastic Book Fair
We will hold our annual holiday book fair from November 9-20, however this year the fair will be online only. This is a great opportunity to buy holiday gift books at a great price and support our school at the same time. The more money our fair makes, the more books our school receives and we can earn our buy-one-get-one fair in the spring!
If you can’t find what you need locally, did you know that you could choose The Learning Academy of Teton Valley as the beneficiary of your Amazon.com purchases? The school receives .05% of all purchases on Amazon Smile. Visit https://smile.amazon.com to sign up.
Down the Road:
• Friday, December 18th will be a holiday pajama day and Secret Santa gift exchange
• Our Holiday Break is December 21st- January 1st. We return to school January 4th.
• Winter Sports at Grand Targhee will be Fridays beginning January 8th. This program is for students ages 4 and up. A parent must accompany all transitional kindergarten and preschool students who choose to participate in the program. Look for more information to come home later in the month.
We hope you have a safe and healthy, warm and wonderful November!

Please make sure to park along the frontage road and remain outside of the building. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that as we move forward the pull-throughs will be convenient for you and safer for our students and staff.
All adults on school grounds are asked to please wear a mask and be aware of proper distancing. All students should be masked upon entry to the building at which time individual classes will have varying guidelines regarding mask wearing throughout the day. Thank you for helping to keep us all safe and healthy!
We will do our best to create signage for the first week of school so that pick-up and drop-off can go as smoothly as possible, but we appreciate you looking over the attached map prior to the first day. We also value your patience as we navigate a new way of doing things and promise to be aware of any changes that may need to be made along the way! We always welcome feedback.

The LATV team
Dear Learning Academy Summer Camp Families,
We hope this finds you well. We are looking forward to finally seeing your smiling faces soon! Below please find an outline of policy and procedure updates for our upcoming camp which is scheduled to open on June 1. Thank you for reading this information carefully so that we can keep all of our families safe and healthy this summer!
- First and foremost, if your child, anyone in your home, or any person that you are in frequent contact with has exhibited any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, please do not send your child to camp.
- Please teach and/or remind your child of what they can do to keep themselves and others around them safe. Keep hands off of faces, keep distance from other students and teachers, wash and sanitize hands frequently, sneeze or cough into elbows, etc.
- Please wash all items that come to camp with your child frequently. (towels, lunchboxes, water bottles, etc.)
- Frequented surfaces will be sanitized three times daily.
- Nap cots will be set up with students head to toe and distanced from each other.
- All toys with soft surfaces, dress up items, pillows, etc. have been removed from student use and only hard items that can be disinfected regularly will be available for student play.
- Lunch and snack times will be in individual classrooms or outdoor spaces rather than common areas and students will be distanced.
- Outdoor play times will be staggered for the different classes.
- Group sizes will be limited based on age group.
- Camp enrollment may be limited once we see what attendance totals will be.
In the event that there is another mandatory closure due to COVID-19, there will be no refunds, credits or exchanges offered for prepaid, pre-registered days. Drop-ins are always welcome if you would rather not assume this risk. If you would like to fill out a calendar with potential drop-in days so that your child is assured a space in the camp and pay on a weekly basis, that option is now available. All camp payments will be due on the first day of camp.
Upon arrival at school, you will be greeted outside by a staff member where you will transfer your child into our care. We will then offer them hand sanitizer before they enter the building. Parents will not be allowed in the building at this time to further reduce contact.
Thank you for your continued support of The Learning Academy! We look forward to seeing you soon!
